The Heritage, Location and General Landscape Setting

Fieldgate was part of a former farmstead of Lowther Estate sitting within the Lakes District Nation Park. elevated above the nearby village of Bampton Grange and Bampton situated in the idyllic Lowther Valley, with the River Lowther running through it and the east Lakeland fells and Knipe Scar creating a dramatic backdrop.

The local landscape character is totally dominated by the limestone, both in terms of landform, farming use and the historic environment. The distinctive style and pattern of limestone gives this part of the Lake District a unique identity. The Bampton area, and the whole Lowther Valley, has a remarkable legacy of Lake District traditional buildings, both high status and more humble dwellings, as well as agricultural buildings of the same period. Fieldgate house is a late 18th C Georgian style house, a Grade II listed building, and Fieldgate Barn is within the curtilage of the house, a typical 16th c-17th c traditional Cumbria stone barn with the farmstead forming an integral component of this very attractive landscape heritage.

The Renovation...

The renovation of the Farmstead has taken over 2 years and is now a self catering holiday venue accommodating from 16 people in 8 to 15 bedrooms specifically geared to accommodating large family and friends groups for milestone birthdays, anniversaries and get togethers.

Located just 5 miles off junction 39 of the M6, the Farmstead is ideally placed for groups from England, Scotland and Wales to meet up together and an ideal base for visits to the rest of the Lake District National Park.

Both the house, and the stone barn, have underfloor heating from an eco ground source heating system, and have individual Freesat TV systems. The whole Farmstead venue is geared up to accommodate single group up to 34 persons for family and friends get togethers, milestone birthdays, anniversaries and reunions. The farmstead is ALSO available to rent separately as house or barn by negotiation (availability).
